Run Specialty Applications

Key Concepts

Included on this NIMAMUSE CD-ROM along with the major application programs, sample data, tutorials and source code, are six "specialty" applications:

---------------------------------------------------------

Two of these applications actually use the map data that you import and buildwith NIMAMUSE. These two applications are Perspective Scene (PSCENE)and Line of Sight (LOS). Perspective Scene drapes raster data (likeCADRG) over elevation data (DTED) and renders the raster data with a 3Dappearance. Line of Sight also combines raster data and elevation data ina way that allows you to do visibility analysis based on terrain.

As the diagram shows, both of these specialty applications require that yourinput, NIMA raster and elevation data, be first accessed by the NIMAMUSERaster Importer. Both of these applications then ask you for viewing parameters, then display the result with an option to save the displayed result to afile.

NIMAMUSE contains a program that will convert the coordinates of a singlepoint from one of many (~200) worldwide local datums to another local datum, including the NIMA standard datum, WGS-84. This program is call DTCC4, whichstands for Datum Transformation and Coordinate Conversion version 4. DTCC4is designed for coordinates determined and measured from maps and charts.

Also included is VPFView 2.1. This application reads and displays VectorProduct Format data. It can read any VPF data directly and therefore doesnot require any data preparation like the other major NIMAMUSE applications.VPFView is a standalone application.

REALTIME is a program which reads Geographic Positioning System (GPS) datafrom your computer's serial port, or reads GPS data from a file. These GPScoordinates can also be input to the NIMAMUSE Fusion program at the sametime they are being collected.

REPORT is an application that surveys NIMAMUSE users. It generates bug reportforms for NIMAMUSE users to fill out and send back to the NIMAMUSE developersand maintainers at the Defense Mapping Agency.

Reasons to Run Specialty Applications

Perspective Scene (PSCENE) is used to help visualize the shape of the terrainof your area of interest.

Line of Sight (LOS) is used to do visibility of terrain analysis for an observerat a particular point on the terrain in your area of interest.

DTCC4 was developed to serve the field user in transforming map derivedcoordinates quickly and accurately. There are, of course, many planning andoperational scenarios in which coordinate conversion is required to maintainthe accuracy of the information that is derived from maps.

VPFView is used to browse any VPF data without the need to use a GeographicInformation System. With VPFView, you can view your data right off of thedistribution media.

REALTIME can help you collect GPS data for further integration into the NIMAMUSEFusion program.

REPORT allows you report any problems with the NIMAMUSE software back toNIMA.

How to Run Specialty Applications

Perspective Scene (PSCENE)

To run Perspective Scene:

- Access & Prepare NIMA Digital Data

- Run Perspective Scene

The flow of data to run Perspective Scene is illustrated in this diagram:

Refer to the Perspective Scene page PSCENE.DOC

and to the Perspective Scene ApplicationReference  PSC_UG.DOC

Line of Sight (LOS)

To run Line of Sight:

- Access & Prepare NIMA Digital Data

- Run Line of Sight

The flow of data to run Line of Sight is illustrated in this diagram:

and to the Line of Sight ApplicationReference  LOS_UG.DOC

DTCC4

The behavior of DTCC4 is very similar to the behavior of a hand-held calculator:enter a point, hit the "Transform" button, read the result. Those steps arerepeated for as many individual points as you have. You also have the opportunityto set DTCC4 options before cycling through those three steps. The optionsinclude choosing datums, choosing a coordinate type, choosing a coordinateformat, and directing output.

As the diagram shows, the "INPUT" and "OUTPUT" datums are identified, thenpoints are entered one at a time to the DTCC4 program. Output of DTCC4 canbe either to your display only, or to your display and a recording text file. You can enter as many points for transformation as you like, and you canchange the identity of the datums at any time.

The following three applications are standalone with nopreparation step necessary. You just need to locate the executableon your particular hardware and run it:

VPFView 2.1

VPFView 2.1 is an application reads and displays Vector Product Format data.It can read any VPF data directly and therefore does not require any datapreparation like the other major NIMAMUSE applications. VPFView is a standaloneapplication.

REALTIME

REALTIME is a program which reads Geographic Positioning System (GPS) datafrom your computer's serial port, or reads GPS data from a file. These GPScoordinates can also be input to the NIMAMUSE Fusion program at the sametime they are being collected.

REPORT/SURVEY

REPORT is an application that surveys NIMAMUSE users. It generates bug reportforms for NIMAMUSE users to fill out and send back to the NIMAMUSE developersand maintainers at the Defense Mapping Agency.
